Alien Registration Card

- Application form, Passport (1 original and 1 copy)

- Certificate of Enrollment or Admission

- 1 Color Photo (3.5x4.5cm with white background, taken within 6 months)

- Processing fee 30,000KRW (in Cash)

※ Payment method for Issuance of Alien Registration Card (re-issuance) fee has been changed to cash payment from January 2011 based on Immigration Regulation Article 73, Clause 1

※ Photo: Taken within the last 6 months, white background, 3.5cm*4.5cm, colored, full-face view directly facing the camera

Tuberculosis Screening for Foreign Registration

According to the Justice Department policy, Tuberculosis screening is required for all international students who are eligible for foreigner registration. (Starting from 1st December 2014)

 

1. Recipient

International students from countries identified as high TB risk who are required for foreigner registration (D-2 Visa)

  • High Risk Countries: China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Indonesia, India, Nepal, Vietnam, Thailand, Russia, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka
 

2. Submission Period

n the day of foreign registration at the immigration office (at the very first time of alien registration card issuance)

- Not required for visa extension

 

3. TB Screening Method

  • Visit your nearest clinic → Get an exam → Receive a medical report on the next day
  • Required documents: Passport, 1 photo(3*4), processing fee 1,500KRW
  • Nearest clinic from the University: Junggu Community Health Center 1F (중구보건소 민원접수실)
    (02-3396-6310 / Subway - Sindang Station Line 2 Exit #4 or Line 6 Exit 8)
  • Visit the clinic and say " 외국인 유학생 건강검진(결핵검진) 받으러 왔어요"

Re-Issuance of Lost Foreign Registration Card

A. Reasons for re-issuance

Lost or stolen registration cards, damaged registration cards, lack of space for necessary items to be displayed, changes in details on the existing card (name, gender, birth date and nationality) – Must be done immediately

 

B. Required Documents

- Application form, Document explaining re-issuance, original and 1 copy of passport
- Certificate of Enrollment, Real estate or contract paper (or certificate of residence)
- 1 Color photo (if wish to change), Processing fee 30,000KRW in cash

Information Change

Eligibility

Registered foreigner who wish to change the information stated on the card like name, gender, birthday, nationality and more. (Must be done within 14 days of change)

 

Required Documents

- Application form, passport and foreign registration card

※ For school change:

① Enrollment Certification of the new school (Before school starts: certificate of admission, Certificate of tuition fee payment)
② Enrollment Certification and transcript of the previous school

Address Change

Eligibility

Registered foreigner who wish to change the address

 

Period

Must be done within 14 days of the move-in at the City hall/District office/Gu office or Immigration office. If not, fine will be applied.

 

Required Documents

Application form, passport, foreign registration card, Real estate or contract paper (or certificate of residence)

Visa Extension

A. Undergraduate students with D-2(Overseas Study) visa

(1) Required Documents
Application, passport, Alien Registration Card, Certificate of Enrollment, Transcript, Certificate of tuition fee payment or scholarship, Real estate or contract paper(or certificate of residence), Certificate of applicant’s bank balance with at least 15,000,000KRW (only for students with GPA lower than 2.0), Processing fee 60,000KRW (Government Revenue Stamp)

 

B. Graduate school students D-2(Overseas Study) (preparing a thesis)

(1) Eligibility
- Foreigners who have to unavoidably stay in Korea for an extended period after completing a degree course to prepare a thesis or some other academic reasons

(2) Extension period
Undergraduate: Maximum of 2 years
Master’s: Maximum of 3 years
Ph.D.: Maximum of 5 years

(3) Required Documents
- Application, Passport, Alien Registration Card, Certificate of Completion, transcript, Real-estate or contract paper(or certificate of residence), Processing fee 60,000KRW (Government Revenue Stamp)
- Recommendation letter by a professor (form available)

Visa Status Change

A. [At first admission] Change General Trainee (D-4) to Overseas study (D-2)

- Required Documents

Application, Passport, Alien Registration Card, Certificate of admission, Certificate of graduation issued by the most recent school attended, Official Academic Record Verification, Certificate of Korean language course Enrollment(including attendance rate), Certificate of tuition fee payment or scholarship, Certificate of applicant’s bank balance with at least 15,000,000KRW(issued within 1 months of the submission), Real estate or contract paper(or certificate of residence), Processing fee 100,000KRW (Government Revenue Stamp), 1 color photo (if wish to change), \30,000 in cash(if wish to reissue the card)

※ A copy of family relationship certificate (e.g. birth certificate) is additionally required if the bank account belongs to family members, not to the applicant

※ Changing status of stay from D-4(general trainee) to D-2(Study Abroad) requires prior permission based on the Article 24 of Immigration Control so application for status of stay change must be submitted and get an approval before semester starts. (Be aware of penalties)

 

B. [Reinstatement] Change Short Term General(C-3-1) to Study Abroad (D-2)

- Required Documents: Application form, Passport, Alien Registration Card, Certificate of Enrollment, certificate of graduation issued by the most recent school attended, Official Academic Record Verification, Certificate of Korean language course Enrollment(including attendance rate), Certificate of tuition fee payment or scholarship, Certificate of applicant’s bank balance with at least 15,000,000KRW, Real-estate or contract paper(or certificate of residence), Processing fee 100,000KRW(government revenue stamp), 1 color photo (if wish to change), \30,000 in cash(if wish to reissue the card)

 

C. [Employment activity after graduation] Change Overseas Study (D-2) to Job Seeking (D-10)

(1) Eligibility: D-2 visa holders who acquired a Bachelor degree (equivalent or above) in Korea with GPA over 2.5
(2) Required Documents: Application, Passport, Alien Registration Card, Certificate of Graduation (Diploma), Transcript, Employment Activity Plan Form, Real-estate or contract paper(or certificate of residence), Processing fee 100,000KRW (government revenue stamp), 1 color photo, 30,000KRW in cash for card reissuance, recommendation letter from the advisory professor(for students with GPA under 3.0)
(3) Period: 2 years

 

D. [Hired after Graduation] Change Overseas Study (D-2) to Special Occupation (E-7)

(1) Eligibility: For those who acquired a Bachelor degree (equivalent or above) in Korea and have a recommendation letter from the President (Dean) of the institution.
(2) Required Documents: Application, Passport, Alien Registration Card, Certificate of Graduation(Diploma), Transcript, Original and Copy of Employment Contract, Real-estate or contract paper(or certificate of residence), Employment Recommendation letter by the Minister of respective department or any documents proving necessity of employment, copy of business license, Processing fee 130,000KRW

※ Note: Approval of the E-7 visa should be done before the first day of work so apply right after signing the contract paper.

Permission for Part-time Job

A. D-2(Study Abroad) Holders

(1) Eligibility:
- D-2 Visa holders who are currently attending College or higher education institution
- D-4-1(Korean Language Study) holders are qualified to apply after 6 month of achieving D-4.
- Those who are writing a thesis after a regular degree course (including Master’s and Ph.D.) (Those who are in exceeded semesters or have completed the undergraduate course are not eligible to apply.)
- Those who have GPA of previous semester over 2.5

(2) Working Hours:
- Up to 25 hours a week (Mon. to Fri.) during the semester
※ Those who are in Master’s/Ph.D. program or writing a thesis may work up to 30 hours a week
- Limited to 2 workplaces
- No work hour limits on holidays, weekends and vacations (only enrolled students are allowed)

(3) Required Documents
-Application, Passport, Alien Registration Card, and Transcript
-Recommendation letter for part-time Job (Signed by an employer and a staff member of the Center for International Students)

(4) Allowed Working Field
- Occupation closely related to major
- Socially and legally acceptable occupation for students
- Seller, clerk or staff occupation in English village/camp
- Any other simple labor (If occupation of permitted field listed above requires certain qualifications, all students must follow the related law)
- Individual Private tutoring of sort and engagement in manufacturing is not allowed

(5) Penalties for Violation of the Part Time Job
- Working without permission: Employee and the employer will penalized with:(First, will be Fined and will not be able to work for a year. Second will be forced to deport out the country.)
- Violating Conditions of Permission (Working Hours, Working Place, etc.): (First: not eligible to work for 1 year. Second: Part Time will not be allowed while studying abroad.Third: Studying Abroad Qualification will be cancelled.)

6) How to apply
- Apply online after filling out an application form for part-time employment for international students. Scan the recommendation letter and attach the file when applying.
- If your workplace has been changed, you should notify it by visiting the immigration offcie or via E-Application(www.hikorea.go.kr)
